Tustin criminal defense attorneyA hit-and-run driver has been arrested after injuring a 15-year-old girl and then leaving the scene of the accident.

Police say the girl was skateboarding near the intersection of Victory and Lindley in Reseda around midnight on May 30 when she was hit. Both of her legs were broken. The driver fled the scene but was later arrested after a search. She has been charged with felony hit and run.

In California, the penalty for hit and run varies based on the level of injury to the victim. But first, prosecutors have to prove a few things: That the driver was aware they were in an accident, that they knew someone was injured, and that the person intentionally violated the legal requirements for staying at the scene of an accident.

Penalties for hit and run vary from 90 days in jail to 4 years in state prison. There are many factors that can affect your sentence, including: if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident, how many people are injured, if you tried to get help for the victims, if you were driving recklessly at the time, if you came forward voluntarily, and the state of your current driving record.
