Irvine California criminal defense lawyerAn Irvine man has been convicted of sexually assaulting two women. The crimes took place in Irvine and Newport Beach.

In 2005 and 2006 Travis Batten, Jr. broke into the residences of two women and sexually assaulted them while wearing a mask. The first assault happened on May 20, 2005. Police say Batten broke into the residence of the first victim while she was away and waited for her to return. When she came home, Batten attacked her, duct taped her hands and mouth and then sexually assaulted her multiple times. Afterwards, he punched her in the head and threatened further harm if she called the police. After he left, the victim called 9-1-1.

The second attack happened November 30, 2006. Batten broke into the second victim’s home and waited outside the bathroom as she showered. When she came out of the bathroom, he attacked her, bound her hands and raped her multiple times, again while wearing a mask.

Investigators said Batten left DNA evidence at both scenes that linked him to the crimes. He was arrested in July 2011. Batten was convicted and faces 120 years to life in prison as the result of sentencing enhancements for the burglary, sexual assault and tying up the women during the attack.
