Irvine California criminal defense lawyerFormer New Orleans Saints star Darren Sharper is in a Los Angeles jail on charges of aggravated rape in several different states.

Sharper was arrested by L.A.P.D. on January 17, 2014, when two women reported to police that he assaulted them. He was about to be freed on bond from the California charges when New Orleans P.D. issued an arrest warrant for two additional counts of aggravated rape. Additional rapes have been reported in Miami, Las Vegas, and Tempe, Arizona.

In the New Orleans and L.A. cases, all the women involved reported that they blacked out after being given drinks by Sharper. An L. A. prosecutor said the football star filed a worker’s compensation claim in January 2012 that listed sleep issues among a long list of health complaints. Sharper was then prescribed Ambien, a drug used to treat insomnia. He went through as many as 70 pills in 65 days. Investigators believe Sharper was using Ambien to drug the women he encountered at clubs and parties. He had 20 pills in his possession when Los Angeles Police arrested him in January.

Sharper entered a plea of not guilty and remains jailed until a hearing in the case on April 15.
