Marijuana Delivery Services Blossom Under Restrictive Zoning Laws

The most recent numbers show that 193 cities in California have completely banned dispensary activity. In other areas, such as San Diego, the zoning laws are so restrictive that they function almost like a ban. With those limitations in play, the medical marijuana delivery scene is growing, well, like a weed.

Medical marijuana delivery services are able to skirt local zoning laws since there is no storefront. Apps like Eaze and Canary connect verified users with medical marijuana in a fraction of the time it would take to make the trip to a dispensary yourself, and without putting yourself at risk.

Delivery services are safer for the owners, too, since delivery is decentralized for faster service. This means that all the cash associated with the drops is in many different locations instead of one storefront. Dispensaries are at greater risk of robbery and theft since marijuana is easily sold on the street and federal law prevents banks from doing business with marijuana dispensaries. Some armored car services have even quit servicing dispensaries as the DEA continues to crack down on legal medical marijuana operations.

The delivery service apps run on mobile browsers, where you upload your ID, medical marijuana ID card and pay all in one place. Once you are a verified patient, you can select your strain, choose an amount, and take delivery of medical marijuana in as little as 5 to 20 minutes.

Delivery services currently run largely unregulated, but some city officials in places like San Francisco, where Eaze has already rolled out, are starting to consider regulating these services.
