san juan capistrano criminal defense lawyerA mother of 15-month-old twins was shot in a home invasion.

Police received a report around 11 a.m. on May 23 that three men had broken into the home. When they arrived, they found the 29-year-old mom with a gunshot wound to her neck. Two other adults who were home at the time had been restrained with zip ties. Three men and a driver fled the scene in a white SUV.

A neighbor reported seeing the same car approach the home the day before. She said the men tried the doors, and left when they found them to be locked. This time the doors were open, and the men, wearing dark clothing, masks and gloves, walked right in. She said they left minutes later and she could hear the babies crying, but never heard the shooting. Police did not know if anything had been stolen.

The mother sustained a gunshot wound in her neck near the spine but is expected to recover. Neighbors say the family made jewelry, and that may have been the motivation for the robbery, but police have not confirmed why the men singled out the home.

Investigators are trying to determine if this crime is linked to another crime in the same area, where two men robbed a Café and pistol whipped an employee. The two also used zip ties to restrain restaurant patrons.
