Highway patrol received several calls about a car going the wrong way down the freeway. The suspect finally crashed into a Mercedes after just missing two other vehicles. Both drivers sustained only minor to moderate injuries.

You are considered to be driving under the influence if your blood alcohol level is 0.08 percent or higher, as determined by a blood test or field sobriety test. The penalties for DUI with an accident vary, but almost always include probation, alcohol education classes, community service, a suspended license, impounded vehicle, and jail or prison term.

If you commit a traffic violation and injure someone while under the influence, it’s automatically treated as felony DUI, even if you’ve never had a DUI before. Felony DUI carries a minimum of 180 days in jail, $3,000 fine, and license suspension of four years.
